8x8 Project

A landscape site design.

Project Description:

This idea began with an aerial image of a body of water flowing around fractured rocks. I focused on preserving these organic shapes when creating my initial 8"x8" analog abstraction. Then, I reimagined this abstraction into a 320'x320' recreational site through a 2D analog to 3D digital workflow.

(Jan. 2021 - Feb. 2021)

Used original image to create abstract analog drawings focusing on line and shape, then edited them in Photoshop for clarity.

Translated analog drawings to AutoCAD designs while maintaining dimensions.

Created layered landscape contours in Illustrator then used them to create 3D contours in SketchUp.

Final Iteration: Planned textures and landscape design in Illustrator, then created a layout in InDesign to showcase the key features of this landscape design from a top-down view. Finally, added textures, buildings, and people into a SketchUp model.
